Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City team members donated 930 food items to help support the upcoming “Feeding of the 5,000” event, hosted by the Obion County Ministerial Association. Each year, the food drive provides 1,500 bags of groceries and a traditional Thanksgiving meal for community members on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

“Our initial goal was to collect 200 boxes of macaroni and cheese and instant mashed potatoes to supplement supplies provided by our local churches,” said Chaplain Michael Dennison, director of pastoral care at Baptist Union City. “This year our team members decided 200 was too few. They responded with 930 total units. All praise, glory and honor go to our Lord Jesus Christ for filling our folks with a giving spirit.”

During a gathering for hospital team members, Pastor Dan Huggins of Refuge Church UC, a member of the Obion County Ministerial Association, offered a devotion and prayer for the community missions project.

Baptist Union City Administrator/CEO Skipper Bondurant addressed team members: “This donation that will be used to help feed people in need in this community is another example of how you all go above and beyond to care for others. It highlights the ‘E’ and ‘S’ in our CARES acronym, which stands for ‘Empathy and Compassion and Service Above Self.’”
