Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton and Baptist Center of Excellence in Addiction Medicine collaborated with local first responders and Tipton Prevents to collect expired and unwanted medications on National Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Baptist Tipton served as a Drug Enforcement Administration collection site. More than 300 community members showed up for the event, which included Trunk or Treat and bounce houses for kids, naloxone kits for families in need, and substance use resources focused on prevention, treatment and recovery efforts.
National Take Back Day helps prevent misuse and overdose by encouraging safe and responsible disposal of unused or expired prescription medications. Nationally, the Oct. 26 event collected 348,175 pounds or 174 tons of drugs.
