Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton recently announced Judy King, RN, case manager, is its Service First Champion for the quarter. Judy was recognized for going above and beyond to arrange a visit between two patients facing difficult situations.
“Judy is an exemplary case manager. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience and uses it with compassion,” said the nominator. “She is constantly working hard to provide the best service for her patients and make sure their needs are met.”
Judy arranged for a visit between two patients, an older mother with dementia and her disabled adult son. The woman had been her son’s caretaker for his entire life. As both patients were headed to separate nursing homes after leaving the hospital, they had one last opportunity for a visit. Judy took the initiative and arranged the visit, working with Adult Protective Services.
“You should have seen the mother’s face light up when she was wheeled into her son’s room! He responded to her voice, as she spoke to him about all of the things they had done together and how much she loved him. There was not a dry eye in the room,” noted the nomination.
