Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton and Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County recently honored Service First Champions for their compassion and willingness to go above and beyond.
Baptist Tipton recognized Lynn Young, RN, for going above and beyond to help team members and patients. Lynn went to work recently during a weekend when she was scheduled off, helping to ensure her fellow team members were not overworked, and patients received the level of care they expect from Baptist.
“Oftentimes, at the drop of a hat, she will come in to help us. She is a wonderful team player, and we are so blessed to have her,” said the nomination.
Baptist Union County named Savannah Newell, RN, and Laura Owen, RN, as Service First Champions for their compassion. Both nurses work in the emergency department and were nominated by a colleague for going above and beyond to help a patient care for their pet.
The nomination began by sharing how the emergency department staff were inspired by a patient who offered prayers for other patients and hospital staff. When the patient expressed concern that his puppy was home alone, Savannah brought the puppy to see the patient after her shift, and Laura generously agreed to foster the puppy while the patient received the appropriate medical care.
In the nomination, the colleague stated, “The pureness of these two ladies’ hearts shined through that night. They brought so much peace and comfort to that patient — beyond medical care.”
“The kindness and compassion shown by Savannah and Laura exemplify what a Service First Champion should be,” said Ann Bishop, CEO and administrator. “We appreciate these incredible nurses that truly make a difference at Baptist Union County and in the lives of our patients.”
