Baptist Memorial Health Care, Friends of the Library and Memphis Library Foundation helped sponsor DiscoverREAD, Memphis’ largest interactive literary space, at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library.

The approximately 450-square-foot permanent space located in Central Library’s children’s department includes four wall-mounted manipulative Playboards®, a puppet stage, a large play kitchen and other interactive items. The center is designed to help parents and/or caregivers encourage early literacy among children up to five years old through the use of technology and fun activities, such as reading, playing, storytelling, singing and writing.

“We are excited to offer this new resource to parents and caregivers,” said Jennifer Hornby, children’s services coordinator for Memphis Public Libraries.

The Central Library’s DiscoverREAD center is the second center to open at Memphis Public Libraries. The first center opened at the Cornelia Crenshaw Library in March 2017.
