Baptist Memorial Health Care has long been a proud sponsor of the Levitt Shell Health & Wellness Series, which provides free, in-person programs to help community members stay healthy. Now we’re also excited to be a part of the Shell on Wheels outreach program, featuring a mobile replica of the Overton Park Shell, the Mobile Shell stage, integrated with sound, lighting and power to bring free performing arts to Memphis and Shelby County neighborhoods lacking access to the Overton Park Shell.
The new Mobile Shell will allow for a more equitable Shell experience in every Memphis community while building on the mission of the Overton Park Shell to build community through music and education and find common ground in a diverse audience.
Shell on Wheels will also showcase creative partnerships through Memphis-based arts nonprofit organizations to amplify the voices of Memphis artists, including musicians from diverse neighborhoods of Memphis.
Local musicians Kortland Whalum and Susan Marshall performed on the Mobile Shell stage for its unveiling on Thursday, July 27. The new venue is 50 feet long and 20 feet wide when set up.
The Mobile Shell can be contracted for community and corporate events with revenue going toward free, mobile performing arts events that aim to infuse positivity and unity through music.
