Baptist Recognizes Service First Champions

Baptist Memorial Health Care team members recently honored their colleagues as Service First Champions. Keep reading to find out more about the outstanding service of recent Service First Champions, and contact your manager for details on how to nominate someone.

Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center

Several team members nominated Heather Durham, administrative assistant, for Service First Champion for consistently going above and beyond the call of duty. “She is very respectful while dealing with issues and very thorough to make sure visitors, callers and team members reach the appropriate person,” said a nominator. “Heather is sometimes the first one to respond to a call from the public, and she makes sure the person calling feels heard. I have seen several physicians and department directors come to her for help, and she makes time for each of them. I have heard several people say, ‘I’m not sure; let me ask Heather,’ and I think that is a great compliment.”

Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto

Labor and Delivery Nurse Janet Caldwell retired with extra flair after receiving Service First Champion recognition during her retirement reception where she was also honored for serving Baptist DeSoto for 37 years. Colleagues recognized Caldwell for the exceptional care she provided to patients, as well as her kindness and empathy, nursing expertise and mentorship of fellow nurses.

Caldwell’s nominator applauded her for redirecting a pregnant patient who was experiencing bleeding and traveling by private vehicle. “The patient reported being greater than 30 minutes from Baptist DeSoto. Janet called the patient back to instruct her to drive to the nearest delivering hospital, and the patient changed direction and traveled to our Baptist facility in Oxford,” said the nominator. “The patient immediately delivered by C-section and was found to have had an abruption. The patient had a positive outcome due to Janet reaching back out and providing her with guidance.”

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton

Josh Strickland, registered nurse in the Operating Room, became a Service First Champion for his dedication. “He volunteered to assist at other facilities during periods of short staffing, including stepping in when another team member experienced a family emergency and needed to be out for several weeks,” said the nominator. “Josh has also driven to another facility and picked up needed supplies to ensure that we had a smoother workflow and fewer interruptions for patients during a very busy day. His willingness to help whenever needed and the behind-the-scenes support he provides enhances our overall patient experience.”
