Junior Achievement of Memphis held its annual JA Career Exploration Fair from Tuesday, May 16, through Thursday, May 18, with more than 3,000 eighth-grade students from 32 schools attending. Baptist was the presenting sponsor of a journey through “Injury to Rehabilitation,” an immersive experience that helps students imagine careers in health care.
Baptist Memphis hosted a surgery center for the event with assistance from Steris, the vendor who set up the life-size surgery center. Baptist Health Sciences University (BHSU) facilitated various hands-on activities, such as radioactive imaging, urinalysis demos, first aid and don on/off for personal protective equipment (PPE). BHSU’s Health Administration focused on helping students find their calling in health care.
Acadian Ambulance Service demonstrated first aid on a wreck scene. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital did CPR demos and discussed bedside treatment. RED Chiro LLC shared the benefits of chiropractic services, and Campbell Clinic discussed orthopedic and rehabilitation services.
In total, more than 50 local industry leaders participated in the JA Career Exploration Fair, which featured five journeys exploring careers aligned with students’ interests, talents and skills. Each journey offered the opportunity for hands-on demonstrations of jobs.
