Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis honored Kelsey Fiveash, RN in the ICU, with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for the compassion and determination she showed in helping to locate an incapacitated patient’s family members. The hospital also named Kelsey as a Service First Champion for the third quarter.
Kelsey has served Baptist since 2016. She was part of a team trying to locate family members for a patient who had been on a ventilator for more than a week and was unable to communicate. Kelsey was nominated by a Baptist physician who was touched by her efforts.
The patient’s family drove to Memphis from Dallas to be by his bedside. They expressed their gratitude for the care he received.
The nominator said, “Moments like this make medicine special and provide a silver lining to an otherwise bleak situation.”
