Baptist Memphis Names Two Service First Champions

Baptist Memphis recently honored two Service First Champions for their extra effort to help a patient who was feeling down.

Maria Hernandez and Jenny Williams, both nurses on the 3 East Heart Failure Unit at Baptist Memphis, became Service First Champions after they helped a patient who was feeling alone and had no visitors.

After learning that it was the patient’s birthday, Maria and Jenny threw him a celebration, inviting the chaplain. They planned a special lunch for the patient, including birthday cupcakes! The patient was appreciative and thankful that the nurses took time out to uplift his spirits.

“Both Jenny and Maria could have continued with their daily routine of med passes and assessments but took the time to focus on one of their patients and his emotional status. Taking a chance to make a difference makes Maria and Jenny Service First leaders,” said their nomination.
