Two nurses at Baptist Memphis, Angela Boyce and Kelly Acheson, won the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for their exceptional care of patients.
Angela Boyce, RN on 3 South at Baptist Memphis, earned a DAISY Award for consistently going above and beyond in her care for patients and helpfulness toward other team members.
She was nominated by a team member who said, “This nurse is an angel that works on this unit. We call her ‘Angelina.’ When she walks on the floor you know the day or night is going to be better. Her attitude is infectious and seeing her face can help to lift all the team members’ spirits. She is the most giving person I know.”
“Angela is the perfect example of an exceptional nurse. When I round on patients, she is consistently mentioned for her care, concern and dedication to patients,” the nomination continued.
Kelly Acheson, RN and VAD coordinator at Baptist Memphis, won a DAISY Award for going above and beyond to assist a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) patient to fill the gaps in transition of care to rehabilitation.
“We recently had a new LVAD patient who was sick after LVAD implant and required a very complex follow up. This patient was going to require rehab at an outside facility once discharged. Because LVADs are so intricate, it is incredibly difficult to find a rehabilitation facility that can accommodate a patient with this device,” said the nomination.
Kelly’s nominator said she went above and beyond to fill the gaps in transition of care, but this is only one of many examples of her individualized patient care having a powerful impact on the lives of patients.
“She would clock out from work and go see this patient at rehab on her personal time. She made sure the patient, his family and the staff at the rehab facility felt comfortable with his care and was able to catch and correct mistakes in transition of care that otherwise would have been missed,” said the nominator.
