Tavia Chambers, RN on 5 South at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis, earned a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for her compassion.
A patient’s sister nominated Tavia for being “like a guardian angel.” The nominator said that her sister was transferred to Baptist Memphis after brain surgery and would need a second surgery to remove more of the tumor.
“My other sister and I had flown in from Florida to be with her, and this nurse made sure we had everything we needed. My sister did have a second brain surgery, and they were able to remove all of the tumor,” said the nominator, who described Tavia as “warm and genuine.” The nominator wrote that her sister returned to the unit after her surgery and was very happy to have Tavia as her nurse again.
She further praised Tavia: “We firmly believe that the care this nurse provided for our sister has helped her have a great recovery!”
