Baptist Memphis Gets Advanced Surgical System

Dr. David Engle with the Intuitive da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis recently implemented the Intuitive da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system, a new, leading-edge technology that has the potential to enhance patient care and outcomes. Baptist Memphis is the second hospital in the system to implement the new surgical system, following Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County.

“The da Vinci 5 has an ergonomic design and advanced technology that enhances a surgeon’s ability to complete operations more efficiently,” said Dr. David Engle, who specializes in gynecologic oncology at Baptist Medical Group-Gynecology Surgical Specialists. “The surgical system also offers surgeons greater opportunities to improve patient outcomes.”

Da Vinci 5 is built upon the clinical and operational value from more than 14 million procedures performed using various generations of da Vinci technology. This advanced system helps physicians perform complex surgeries, including gynecologic, urologic, thoracic, cardiac and general, with great accuracy.

Featuring wristed instruments, three-dimensional and high-definition visualization, intuitive motion and an ergonomic design, the da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system provides a magnified view, enabling surgeons to make precise movements using small instruments inside a patient’s body.
