Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis and Mississippi Baptist Medical Center (MBMC) recently earned the American College of Cardiology’s Transcatheter Valve Certification for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures. Baptist Memphis is the only hospital in the Memphis area and one of only two hospitals in Tennessee to have received this certification. MBMC is one of only two hospitals in Mississippi with the certification. Congratulations to members of the valve teams at these hospitals!
In 2022, Baptist Heart celebrated 10 years of performing TAVR procedures at MBMC, and Stern Cardiovascular and Baptist Medical Group celebrated 10 years of completing TAVR procedures at Baptist Memphis.
TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure with quick recovery times for patients with severe valve disease who are considered high risk for open-heart surgery. TAVR is also performed for some moderate- and low-risk patients.
The Transcatheter Valve Certification provides a framework to ensure hospitals meet high-quality standards for transcatheter multidisciplinary heart teams, including shared decision making and formalized training.
