Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis and Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County have made exciting advancements in care using new technology. Keep reading to learn more about the first surgeries in the system for implanting a new dual-chamber leadless pacemaker system, the implementation of a new robotic surgical system that helps surgeons perform complex surgeries and Electrophysiology lab accreditations from the American College of Cardiology.
Baptist DeSoto and Baptist Memphis Implant Dual-chamber Leadless Pacemaker System for First Time
Surgical teams at Baptist DeSoto and Baptist Memphis recently implanted a dual-chamber leadless pacemaker system for patients with slow or irregular heartbeats. At Baptist DeSoto, Dr. Jiang Cui with Stern Cardiovascular implanted metro-Memphis’ first AVEIR DR device, while Dr. David Lan implanted the first device at Baptist Memphis.
The device is one-tenth the size of traditional pacemakers, allows continuous communication and pacing between two chambers of the heart and can be retrieved and upgraded with new technology.
Baptist Union County Implements Intuitive da Vinci 5 Robotic Surgical Technology
Baptist Union County recently implemented the Intuitive da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system, a new, leading-edge technology that has the potential to enhance patient care and outcomes. Baptist Union County was the second hospital in Mississippi and the first in the Baptist system to offer the new equipment. The hospital allowed physicians to showcase their skills and test out a demonstration model on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
This advanced system helps physicians perform complex surgeries, including gynecologic, urologic, thoracic, cardiac and general, with great accuracy. Featuring wristed instruments, three-dimensional and high-definition visualization, intuitive motion and an ergonomic design, the da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system provides a magnified view, enabling surgeons to make precise movements using small instruments inside a patient’s body.
Baptist DeSoto and Baptist Memphis EP Labs Earn American College of Cardiology Accreditation
The Electrophysiology (EP) labs at Baptist DeSoto and Baptist Memphis recently earned accreditation from the American College of Cardiology for their ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who come to the lab.
EP labs provide care for patients with arrythmias and offer treatments, such as cardiac ablation, pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators. Facilities that achieve accreditation meet or exceed an array of stringent criteria and have organized a team of doctors, nurses, clinicians and other administrative staff to support efforts for better patient education, improved patient outcomes, and more effective and efficient disease control.
