Baptist Memorial Hospitals and Providers Earn Recognition

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis earned two 2025 Specialty Clinical Quality Awards from Healthgrades: America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Gastrointestinal Surgery and Stroke Care Excellence, presented to hospitals with superior clinical outcomes in the care and treatment of stroke.

According to Healthgrades, Baptist Memphis is one of the top hospitals for GI surgery in 2025. The hospital was recognized for its superior patient outcomes in bowel obstruction treatment, colorectal surgeries, gallbladder removal and upper gastrointestinal surgery. Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi earned two Specialty Clinical Quality Awards from Healthgrades for 2025: Critical Care Excellence and Pulmonary Care Excellence. Hospitals with superior clinical outcomes in treating pulmonary embolism, respiratory system failure, sepsis and diabetic emergencies earned the Critical Care Excellence Award. The Pulmonary Care Excellence Award is given to hospitals with superior clinical outcomes in treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pneumonia.

Mississippi Baptist Medical Center is one of 76 hospitals in the country to receive the Best Hospital for Black America 2025 Award from BlackDoctor.org for its commitment to delivering diverse community programs and equitable care initiatives.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from BlackDoctor.org,” said Bobbie Ware, CEO and administrator of MBMC. “This award reflects our dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment in which every patient receives compassionate care. Caring for a diverse population is important to the success of our mission and the care of our community.”

BlackDoctor.org selection criteria include a survey of 1,000 Black physicians, patient satisfaction scores and the diversity of the hospital’s senior leadership. An independent advisory board reviewed the selection criteria to ensure it reflected the highest standards of diversity and inclusivity in health care.

Dr. Wright Jernigan, a physician with Baptist Medical Group-Jernigan Surgery Clinic in Union City, won the Union City Daily Messenger Reader’s Choice Award for Best Doctor. Dr. Jernigan established his surgical clinic in Union City in 2006 and joined Baptist Medical Group in 2019.

Dr. Elizabeth Lund, a physician with Baptist Medical Group-Women’s Health Center of Martin, earned Best Doctor from The Weakley County Press.
