Baptist Leake and Baptist Union County Earn Five-Star Rating from CMS

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded Baptist Memorial Hospital-Leake and Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County five stars for quality, the agency’s highest distinction. The hospitals are two of only four in Mississippi to receive the five-star rating.

CMS rated more than 4,000 hospitals in the U.S., and only 483 received five stars. The ratings are based on 46 quality measurements from five categories: mortality, safety, readmissions after treatment of common conditions, patient experience, and timely and effective care.

Baptist Union County is one of only two hospitals in Mississippi and 277 in the U.S. to receive five stars for patient experience.

For the ratings, Medicare considers patient reviews, outcomes and infection rates. An overall star rating is also based on how well a hospital performs across different areas of quality, such as treating heart attacks and pneumonia.
