Baptist Hospital Week Celebrations Include Food and Games

Baptist Union County team members enjoyed a disco party during Hospital Week.

During National Hospital Week, Baptist celebrated you – the heart of Baptist. Entities planned fun activities throughout the week and distributed “Believe in Heroes” T-shirts to wear on Fridays. Keep reading for more on how hospitals celebrated, including dunking tanks, singing contests, therapy dogs and goats!

Baptist Anderson

Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center got into the Hospital Week spirit with a three-day dunking tank event, organized by Baptist Anderson Volunteer Auxiliary. The event raised more than $2,000 for mission projects.

Physicians, department managers and team members from administration volunteered to be dunked! Thanks to the following team members who took the plunge: Sheila Nettles, Steven Spears, Andrea Laird, Vicki Smith, Rick Johnson, Jessica James, Dylan Allen, Natalie Beddingfield, Chris Rutland, Dr. Kim McDonald, Dr. Mark Phillips, Dr. James Cady, John G. Anderson, Dr. Bruce Brown, Dr. Daniel McKiever, Dr. Thomas Plavac, Morgan Craven, Jordy Luke, Dr. Hatem Mourad, John Anderson Jr., Julie Harper, Marcus Willis, David Howell, Dr. Keith Everett, Brandon Boyd, Denton Farr and Brooke McMahan.

Baptist Carroll County

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County celebrated team members all week, closing with an ice cream party, scooped out by the administrative team. Team members chose toppings and created their own unique ice cream sundaes.

Baptist Collierville

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville team members enjoyed games and frozen treats from food trucks as they celebrated the hospital’s 25th anniversary.

Corporate

Corporate kicked off the week with a “Breakfast for Heroes” from Chick-fil-A, followed by goat snuggles with 901 Goats! Team members also enjoyed mural coloring in the lobby, InBody Testing for detailed insights on muscle mass and more, popcorn and pics, Fitness in the Forest 20-minute walk and a picnic on Friday with food from Las Delicias Mexican restaurant and Mempops.

Throughout the week, team members participated in a guessing jar contest, which had the most participation and jar submissions in the last seven years. The contest featured eight teams competing for the coveted title of “Best Guessing Jar” and 173 team members voting on their favorite jars. The teams included:

  • Team No. 1: Team Telehealth, including the Telehealth unit, eICU nurses, Virtual nurses, VMTs and PPC staff, including Emily Stewart, Wanda Morgan and Terri Rowberry
  • Team No. 2: Team Bee-Happy Health Information Management, including Angela Baker, Kathy Tong, Jaycie Hart and Carol Ingram
  • Team No. 3: The Pastel Glasshouse Team, including Samantha Weathers, Chloe Harris, Sheena Jones and Sheneka Davis
  • Team No. 4: Team Revenue Audit, including Cynthia Thompson-Davis, Cassander Green, Tamala Smith and Patricia Winfield
  • Team No. 5: Team H.A.P.P.Y. (Healthy, Active Pets & People, YAY), including Paulette Kearney, Cathy Webb, Susan Burnett and Laurie Christensen
  • Team No. 6: Discharge Call Nurses Team, including Matt Deshotels, Cari Leger, Sandra Toler, Jessica Smith, Marianne Walters, Katherine Geno, Matthew Swatley and Michelle Thomas
  • Team No. 7: The Communications Crew, including Amy Doran, Kimmie Vaulx and Sandy Barron
  • Team No. 8: Team Privacy & Security, including Robbin Hall-Baggett, Kaye Ragan, Gary Sparks and Laura Cummins

Congratulations to Team Privacy & Security whose jar included lovely Clinique beauty products and delicious candy. It garnered 46 of the 173 votes cast (27%). Team H.A.P.P.Y. came in second with 28 votes (16%).

Baptist DeSoto

Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto observed Hospital Week with food and fun activities like games and singing.

Baptist Golden Triangle

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle celebrated with Hospital Week photos, a hamburger and hotdog cookout, a health fair for team members with free screenings, Sweet Peppers Deli cookies delivered to departments by the administrative team, customizable ice cream sundaes and a Chick-fil-A breakfast served by the administrative team.

Baptist Memphis

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis kicked off “Hospital Week through the Decades” with team day featuring hotdogs, followed by a Baptist Idol competition, Blessing of the Hands, prom, “Pie a Leader,” therapy dogs and pancakes.

Leah Snider RN, CVICU, won first place in the Baptist Idol contest. The Unforgettables group took second place.

MBMC

Mississippi Baptist Medical Center’s theme for the week was “Healing Harmonies – MBMC Hits the Right Notes.” Team members received mini Lifesaver records on Monday. Leaders delivered Chick-fil-A chicken biscuits on Tuesday morning. On Wednesday, team members enjoyed a carnival atmosphere in the Atrium with musical trivia, a selfie station with musical instrument props, Plinko, cash machine game and refreshments.

Burgers & Blues, a local barbeque restaurant, served pulled pork and hamburgers with all the fixings on Thursday for lunch and dinner, and leaders were on hand to host the event. The week ended with team members wearing Hospital Week T-shirts and enjoying ice cream treats provided by the Baptist Volunteer Auxiliary.

All week, the Baptist Healthplex-Jackson allowed free access for team members, as well as discounts to join. Two local vendors, Spectrum Sip and Beans & Bananas, offered MBMC team members discounts on purchases during Hospital Week.

Baptist North Mississippi

Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi celebrated with karaoke, games, a picnic and dunking booth.

Baptist Union County

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County distributed treats via a candy cart and served fresh cotton candy. Team members also enjoyed a disco party and Neon Day.

Baptist Tipton

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton celebrated with a special “Homecoming” theme to observe its 60th anniversary!

The fun included a cookout, games and movie night. The finale was a homecoming parade with floats from Dietary, Labor and Delivery, Materials, Pharmacy, Surgery and Health Information Management.

Baptist Women’s Hospital and Baptist Children’s Hospital

Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women and the Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital celebrated “Decades of Care.” Beginning with the ‘60s through the ‘80s, team members enjoyed decade-themed activities and treats, including cookouts, socks, shirts and games.
