Baptist Heart Institute’s Advanced Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support teams recently celebrated several milestones, including implanting 70 left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) this fiscal year, which is the most ever performed in that timeframe at the hospital.
The team also implanted their 500th durable LVAD and 200th HeartMate 3 LVAD devices. Other achievements include enrolling 10 patients in the “Trial to Evaluate Safety And Effectiveness of Mechanical Circulatory Support in Patients With Advancing Heart Failure” (Team-HF IDE). This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of HeartMate 3 LVAD. The team is also enrolling patients in the first randomization of the INNOVATE clinical trial, which will help advance the field of mechanical circulatory support.
“These aren’t just numbers — they’re lives saved, hope restored and a vision fulfilled,” said Dr. Dmitry Yaranov, program director of Advanced Heart Failure, Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. “We believe that advanced heart failure care and ventricular assist device technology should be available to every patient who needs it. I’m proud to work alongside a team that refuses to accept limits and continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
