Four Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle Security team members graduated from Crisis Intervention Training on Friday, March 28. The Columbus Police Department and Community Counseling Services in Columbus, Mississippi, hosted the training.

Baptist Golden Triangle Security team members trained alongside Columbus and Starkville Police Department staff. Crisis Intervention Training equips first responders with the skills to identify and de-escalate mental health crises, promote safety and divert individuals from the criminal justice system to appropriate mental health care.

The graduation ceremony, held at the Columbus Police Department, included a presentation of Crisis Intervention Team pins for graduates. Guest speaker Captain Glenda F. Sherrod with the City of Louisville, Mississippi, quoted Matthew 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Captain Sherrod reminded graduates about de-escalating and leading with empathy when dealing with individuals with mental illnesses.
