Baptist Carroll County recently held a farewell celebration for the five National Guard soldiers who spent six weeks deployed at the hospital to aid with the COVID-19 surge.
The soldiers came from various parts of West Tennessee. They are Sgt. Cory Norwood, 212th Engineering Co. in Paris; Sgt. Danny Bullion, 212th Engineering Co. in Paris; Spc. Jeremy Miller, 1172nd Transport in Memphis; Sfc. Owens, 278th Calvary; and Spc. Neilson, 890th Sapper Co. in Huntingdon.
The commanding officers also attended the celebration and presented the soldiers with awards for their work. While deployed at the hospital, the National Guardsmen performed EVS duties, patient transport, EKGs and ER room turnovers.
Each soldier spoke at the farewell event. They shared how those six weeks affected them and how they felt like part of the Baptist family. Baptist team members also shared their appreciation for the service and friendship given by the National Guardsmen.
“As a retired Army officer, it was very special for me to be present for the farewell celebration and to personally thank them on behalf of the Baptist leadership team,” said Derick Ziegler, vice president of affiliate integration and West Tennessee operations.
