Baptist Better Health Blog Relaunches: Q&A With Kimberly Alexander

The Baptist Better Health blog is back and has a new location and covers additional topics. We talked with Kimberly Alexander, system director of Public Relations/Internal Communications, to learn more about what readers can expect from the refreshed blog.

How is the Baptist Better Health blog different from before?

We’ve expanded the topics covered, and we now provide a more well-rounded view of Baptist Memorial Health Care as a provider, employer and a 24-hospital health care system. Initially, the blog focused on our services and general health information and news. Now, we cover what sets us apart with our expertise and services, introduce team members and share their stories, offer more insight about what Baptist is doing to support the communities we serve and share how Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation is helping to accomplish Baptist’s mission and make a difference in the lives of community members.

With the blog, we can tell the Baptist story in our own way and provide more details than ever before. We’re not limited by whether another agency is interested or can benefit. We’re including stories that may not be of interest to news media, but we believe they’re wonderful stories that need to be shared. We want to share these stories with those who follow Baptist.

Where is the blog located, and how can readers sign up for the monthly newsletter?

The blog has a new location and it’s easier to access. Previously, the blog had its own URL on a separate website. We moved it to BaptistOnline.org. It can be found under the “Blogs” section of the Newsroom page: https://news.baptistonline.org. Readers can also go to it directly at https://news.baptistonline.org/blog/.

We publish four stories a month, one a week. Those stories are also shared through Baptist’s Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram pages. During the month, we send an email newsletter featuring stories from the previous four-week period. To sign up, go to the Newsroom page and enter your email address using the “subscribe” button on the top right of the page.

The newsletter goes to nearly 6,000 followers within the Baptist footprint and is growing. It’s a great way for us to stay in touch with our patients and people who have expressed interest in hearing Baptist news.

Who is the audience for the blog, and what do you hope it accomplishes?

Anyone can read it. I hope more people find their way to the blog. It’s for the communities we serve so they can learn what sets Baptist apart and how we’re going to benefit them through care and as community partners. We also want our patients to read the blog, and we may sometimes feature them in stories.

We’d like team members to read the blog to learn more about what’s happening throughout the Baptist system and gain knowledge about what’s happening beyond the location where they work.

The blog is also for our stakeholders and community partners. More so than ever before, we tell stories about the things Baptist is doing for the community. Stakeholders can share those stories with their followers.

How can Baptist team members submit requests?

Any Baptist team member can use this form to submit a request. We will consider all requests and want to hear from leaders and team members at all levels. It’s important to us to hear from our entities because they know what’s happening at their hospitals and clinics. We want team members to tell us their stories.
