Baptist is proud to sponsor free cityCURRENT events with Dr. Thom Mayer, medical director for the NFL Players Association. Dr. Mayer will be the featured speaker at an in-person reception on Thursday, May 4, and a virtual breakfast presentation on Friday, May 5. Baptist is also offering CPR training for community coaches and trainers on May 4. Registration is required for the free events and CPR training.
Dr. Mayer is an expert in cardiovascular disease, ranging from cardiac arrest and aortic dissection to commotio cordis (an abnormal heart rhythm and cardiac arrest after getting hit in the chest). In 2009, he led the development of emergency action plans for all NFL teams, which paid off last year when Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was successfully resuscitated during an NFL game. During his presentation, Dr. Mayer will share many lessons learned and the importance of being prepared to respond to emergencies, as individuals and a community.
CPR Training
Baptist invites community coaches and trainers to free CPR training. The curriculum is comprehensive, and certification will come from the American Heart Association. If you know someone who works with athletes, please pass this along.
