On Aug. 23, Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell toured the Universal Parenting Place (UPP) at Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women. Mayor Luttrell’s previous visit occurred during the opening of country’s first two UPP sites at Baptist Women’s Hospital and Knowledge Quest, a group dedicated to meeting the needs of its South Memphis community, in April 2015.

Mayor Luttrell requested the recent visit to observe the work and progress at the center because he works closely with the statewide Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) initiatives.

The UPP sites are funded by the ACE Awareness Foundation and provide parental support and counseling in an effort to prevent children from being exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences, which can cause damage to developing brains.
