The cardiovascular (CV) registry team has been busier than usual this month, leading several activities aimed at raising awareness of heart disease.
They encouraged Corporate team members to wear red on Feb. 1, National Wear Red Day for Women. On Valentine’s Day, the team created a large display in the lobby with lots of education about heart health, cardiovascular disease, and early heart attack symptoms, particularly in women. They greeted Corporate team members with a brochure and candy as they entered the building, then asked them to vote for their favorite “model” in its fashion show.
Using a template that Mississippi Baptist Medical Center’s CV department shared, the system CV registry team created Red Dress wooden figures (the “models”). Each member of the team decorated one for the fashion show. The show – designed to heighten awareness of women’s heart health – was inspired by Macy’s annual Heart Month fashion show in New York.
The team distributed more than 400 brochures and other goodies, some provided by American Heart Association (Red Dress pins, eye compresses), and almost 150 Corporate team members voted for their favorite fashion show model. The model Cheryl Hansen designed won first place, and Melissa Lyles’ model took second.
Many other Corporate building departments have asked to decorate their own model next year, but most importantly they learned from the displays and educational conversations.
