In June, I talked to you about why we’re building a pediatric program and shared some of our future plans. I’m pleased to tell you that our plans for the Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital are taking shape.
During the past few months, we have recruited four new specialty physicians – two pediatric intensivists, a pediatric gastroenterologist and a pediatric general surgeon – who will provide expert care to our patients. Kevin Hammeran, the CEO and administrator of the Baptist Children’s Hospital, and his team have done an excellent job of recruiting these physicians and other clinical staff.
On Dec. 13, we will be opening a pediatric intensive care unit at the Baptist Children’s Hospital, which will give us the ability to treat more critically ill patients. In addition to our specialty physicians, Campbell Clinic and Semmes-Murphey physicians will cover our PICU. You helped make this unit a reality through your generous contributions to our PICU giving campaign. Thank you for supporting our vision for providing high-quality pediatric care.
Next year, we will unveil our pediatric transport ambulance, which will travel throughout our system to bring critical pediatric patients to the Baptist Children’s Hospital.
We are in a unique position to provide vital health care to children in our community. Our location in the center of Memphis makes us a convenient option for a broad cross-section of patients in and around the city. As the Baptist Children’s Hospital and its number of elite health care providers grow, we will have an even bigger impact on Mid-South kids, and caring for our kids means caring for our future.
