As the weather gets cooler, many organizations hold 5Ks to raise money for worthy causes. Whether or not you’re a runner, I’d like to ask you to participate in a race that’s near and dear to our hearts—the Camp Good Grief 5K.
Some of you are familiar with Camp Good Grief, but for those who aren’t, it has been our privilege to offer this service, free of charge, for the past 18 years. The camps help children, teens and adults cope with the loss of a loved one and have helped families get through some of the toughest times in their lives. So far, 1,200 people have benefited from the camps – including Baptist team members and their families – and many had such a good experience, they served as buddies at subsequent camps.
The team at the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief operates these camps and offers a number of other grief services, and I’m so proud of what they do. They work tirelessly to ensure grieving families get the help and support they need to overcome tremendous challenges. Their dedication never ends; they maintain relationships with the people they help because they truly care for them. Thanks to the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation and generous organizations and individuals – including many of you – the Center for Good Grief offers all its services for free.
If you have time on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2 pm, I hope you can attend and contribute to the Camp Good Grief 5K. In addition to the race, they’ll have moon bounces, face painting, games for kids, grilled hamburgers, cotton candy, and other treats. Click here for more information or to register. It’s a wonderful chance to have fun with your family while helping others in need.
