Last month, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released its first-ever overall hospital quality star ratings. The agency evaluated more than 3,600 hospitals across the country on 64 quality measures and gave each hospital a rating of one to five stars based on their findings. I am so proud to say that three of our hospitals — Baptist North Mississippi, Baptist Union County and Baptist Booneville — were among the few that earned four stars. No Mississippi hospital earned a higher rating.
This is the latest in a series of wins for our hospitals this year. National quality organizations, including Premier, the American Heart Association and The Leapfrog Group, have given our hospitals their top awards. Five of our hospitals are Blue Cross Blue Shield Distinction Centers or Centers of Excellence.
These are amazing accomplishments, and your hard work made them possible. I know you work for our patients, not for the awards, but I hope you take a moment to congratulate yourselves on these remarkable achievements. These are your gold medals.
