During the second week of June, 25 kids with diabetes headed to Camp Day2Day to spend time doing what kids do: having fun. From swimming to playing board games, this group of kids joined together for time to learn more about diabetes management, nutrition and medication management and managing symptoms.
Sponsored by Baptist and the State of Tennessee, the all-day free camp took place at the Church Health Center from June 6 to 10. Others who contributed to the success of the camp included the American Diabetes Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Lilly, and the University of Memphis.
Camp Day2Day is supervised by medical practitioners and health educators. Children who attended are either Type 1 or 2 diabetics or have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. Campers were also encouraged to bring a sibling or buddy. For more information, contact Community.Involvement@bmhcc.org.
