In May, Baptist Women’s Hospital honored Alycia Thomas, RN on the Mother Baby Unit, with the first quarter DAISY award. Her nomination, read by her nurse manager Debbie Gill during the award ceremony, recounted a father’s moving story. The couple’s baby girl was only a few hours old and the couple was instructed on how to suction the extra fluid on her lungs. Alycia appeared in the patient’s room at a crucial moment. “She (the baby) started gagging and choking then stopped breathing. It was a very scary situation. Alycia flipped her over on her stomach and told my wife to hit the button on the bed for help,” said the father, Adam Yarbro. “I just want to nominate her for her fast reaction. I will say Alycia saved my daughter’s life.”
Baptist Women’s Hospital congratulates Alycia, as well as all the nominees.
