Although health care hasn’t been a major topic of discussion during the presidential primary season, experts believe candidates will begin to talk more about it as the general election nears. Later this year, we can expect to hear the candidates’ plans for the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, Medicaid and similar issues. Their policies, as well as the practices of other federal, state and local politicians, will have a tremendous effect on our future.
As a not-for-profit organization, Baptist cannot endorse a political candidate, and we have no interest in doing so. We are fortunate to have individuals willing to help position us to succeed no matter who wins the presidential election. About a month ago, I told you about the Baptist Making Healthier Communities Political Action Committee (BMHCPAC)—one way a team of dedicated Baptist supporters is helping us do that.
I am pleased to report that in just a few months, the BMHCPAC, led by retired Baptist team members Jim Ainsworth, Bob Gordon and Don Pounds, has been successful in raising money that will be used to advance causes that will ensure our patients continue to receive the high-quality health care they deserve.
I am encouraged by the BMHCPAC’s early success, and we are blessed that such talented, devoted people are leading this effort. I cannot thank them enough.
Thanks for continuing to engage and be supportive of quality health care. I also want to thank everyone who has attended or is planning to attend a Town Hall meeting. Together we can make a difference.
