Baptist Medical Group Surgeon Appointed to Vanderbilt Faculty

Dr. Alyssa D. Throckmorton, a breast surgeon with Baptist Medical Group-Memphis Breast Care, was appointed as an assistant clinical professor of surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Dr. Throckmorton completed her medical degree at the University of Texas in Houston, her general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University, a breast surgery research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and a breast surgery clinical fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.

She returned to Tennessee in 2009 to join the Baptist Medical Group in Memphis and maintains affiliations with the East Memphis Surgery Center and Baptist Women’s Hospital, where the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center is developing an academic affiliation. She is also active in the Tennessee chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

“Alyssa is a thoughtful, knowledgeable and clinically excellent fellowship-trained breast surgeon. She was integral in developing the joint tumor board held once a month between the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center breast program and the Baptist Cancer Center.

“With her excellent training, teaching abilities, and wealth of clinical and investigational experience, we believe there are opportunities to continue to enhance our affiliation. We are proud to welcome Dr. Throckmorton to the adjunct faculty at Vanderbilt,” said Dr. R. Daniel Beauchamp, chairman of the Section of Surgical Sciences, surgeon-in-chief, Vanderbilt University Hospital, and deputy director of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
