Baptist Joins Statewide Experts to Discuss Infant and Maternal Health

A multidisciplinary team from Baptist Women’s Hospital joined national and state-level stakeholders for a two-day program hosted by the Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care (TIPQC). Attendees discussed progress around Tennessee’s infant and maternal health issues and quality improvement projects. The Baptist team included physicians, nurses, a lactation consultant, a dietitian, and a senior leader.

TIPQC brought together more than 300 physicians, nurses, hospital administrators, insurance companies, families, legislators and community groups from March 6 to 8, 2016, at the Cool Springs Marriott in Franklin, Tenn.

Funded by a grant from the State of Tennessee through the Department of Health, TIPQC’s goal is to engage providers across the perinatal spectrum in statewide, evidence-based and data-driven quality improvement projects.

“This year’s meeting was especially timely. TIPQC members are demonstrating that perinatal health care quality can be improved by working collaboratively at a grass-roots level.” said Peter Grubb, M.D., medical director of TIPQC.

During the meeting, Baptist team members collaborated with other Tennessee health care professionals in workshops focusing on hospital acquired infection, antibiotic stewardship, obstetric hemorrhage, neonatal abstinence syndrome, neonatal nutrition, parent/family engagement and future maternal projects.
