Baptist University wins case study challenge

Baptist Health Sciences University students recently won the inaugural Baptist University/Christian Brothers University Inter-Professional Health Care Case Study Challenge. The competition was created to foster and promote academic excellence, collaboration, and collegiality among and between the students at Baptist University and Christian Brothers University. The case study at the center of the event was designed to address specific aspects of care and care coordination between the public and private health care sectors, as it relates to a fictitious outbreak of influenza in Memphis and Shelby County.

The Baptist University team included five students from across the school’s three academic divisions, and two nursing faculty members, Dr. Cathy Stepter and Dr. Rita West, coached the team. Local, regional, and statewide experts in public health, primary care and health systems integration judged the competition. The 2016 challenge will be held at Baptist University next fall.
