Community Relations team members offer help with managing chronic diseases

Baptist’s Community Outreach team will be leading a six-week Chronic Disease Self-Management Training Program for Baptist team members from Dec. 1 until Jan. 5. Classes meet every Tuesday from 7:30-8:30 am and noon-1 pm. The Dec. 1, 15, 22 and 29 classes will be in the HR training room; the Dec. 8 and Jan. 5  classes will be in CC-226. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

System community outreach coordinator Ann Marie Wallace, MPH, and system community outreach specialist Erica Freeman, MS, CHES, will teach the classes, which will cover the following topics:

  • Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation
  • Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
  • Appropriate use of medications
  • Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals
  • Nutrition
  • Decision making
  • How to evaluate new treatments
