Many of you have seen recent news articles that describe phone calls that are supposedly originating from the IRS. This is an attempt to scam call recipients into providing money. The callers are demanding and try to intimidate the recipients. Some Baptist employees have recently received these scam phone calls.
The IRS does not make unsolicited phone calls. They will not call you to demand immediate payment, nor will they ask you for payment without first notifying you by mail.
Scammers typically ask you to provide a prepaid debit card or ask for your debit or credit card number. They may ask for your bank account information. There may be follow-up calls that claim to be from law enforcement.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, hang up from that call and contact the IRS directly. You may also report scam phone calls to the FTC.
