Baptist DeSoto and Baptist Golden Triangle recently honored nurses with DAISY Awards for their tremendous compassion with patients and family members.

Coretta Sanders, RN, was named Baptist Golden Triangle’s most recent DAISY Award winner. Nominated by the daughter of a patient, Coretta was praised for her kindness with her patient and family members.

“Coretta was over the top every day. She brought a smile to both of our faces EVERY day and was extremely compassionate, encouraging, caring and loving to my mother and our family members,” Coretta’s nominator wrote. “Always positive, she brightened the day and made the difficult times easier. I have never felt so confident or appreciative of a person that was in charge of taking care of my mother. (Coretta) went out of her way to make sure my mother was taken care of, and we feel so BLESSED to have had her as our nurse.”

Melissa Miller, RN, won Baptist DeSoto’s DAISY Award on the strength of a nomination from a patient’s mother.

The nominator noted Melissa’s calming support while her daughter was giving birth. After complications arose during the delivery, the doctor and nurses made quick decisions to save the baby and her mother.

“All of the staff helped and gave the necessary care, but later my daughter shared how much she believed God sent Melissa and the staff at this hospital to save her,” said Melissa’s nominator. “Melissa gave my daughter strength and confidence to stay calm when all was not. She made a hard moment easier by taking the time to hold her hand and encourage her throughout the delivery.”
