Annual cancer symposium looks at care for the whole patient

Baptist Cancer Center and Baptist Center for Education & Organizational Development will host the 13th annual Mid-South Cancer Symposium on Nov. 13-14 at the Dr. H. Edward Garrett, Sr. Auditorium on the Baptist Memphis campus.

The objectives for this year’s symposium, titled “Contemporary Oncology: Care for the Whole Patient,” include:

  • Applying skills and tools necessary to enhance delivery and coordination of care for
    cancer patients
  • Examining limitations of current cancer prevention practices
  • Assessing the medical and psychosocial effects of cancer and its treatments
  • Evaluating how genomics tests and research discoveries affect patient care
  • Illustrating recent advances in treatment of lung, breast, esophageal, and ovarian cancer
  • Evaluating current evidence-based standards for cancer side effects management

Continuing medical education, continuing pharmacy education and continuing nursing education credit will be offered for attending the symposium. Also, ASRT will be awarding credits for ARRT-registered individuals who attend the symposium.

There will also be a free session open to the public on Friday, Nov. 13 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Dr. H. Edward Garrett, Sr. Auditorium on the Baptist Memphis campus. At this event, leading cancer specialists will discuss genetics, environment and other factors that affect cancer patients’ well-being. All attendees can enjoy light refreshments and will receive a giveaway.
