Madison Tyler, a clinical dietitian at Baptist Women’s Hospital and Baptist Memphis, recently won the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Emerging Dietetics Leader Award.
The award recognizes the competence and activities of members who are at the beginning of their dietetics careers.
Two of Madison’s colleagues – Queen Cox, MS, RDLDN, clinical nutrition manager for Baptist Women’s Hospital; and Brenda Maschmeyer, RN, BSN, a neonatal intensive care unit research nurse at Baptist Women’s Hospital – wrote recommendation letters for Madison that spoke about her skill and professionalism.
“Madison is well liked by her colleagues, and she demonstrates a personal commitment to quality in everything that she does,” said Queen. “Madison’s dedication to seeing a project through is second to none.”
Her work on a nutrition research project in the Baptist Women’s Hospital’s NICU drew praise from Brenda, who also works on the project.
“Madison has played an integral role throughout the project and has been a very valuable member of the team,” Brenda said. “We have been working on increasing the amount of mother’s own milk these infants receive, as it has been shown to be associated with lower morbidities and improved long-term outcomes. Madison often speaks to the mothers about the importance of their milk and also offers donor milk as an alternative when their milk is not available. Madison was so committed to the efforts that she initiated becoming a certified lactation consultant in June.”
Madison earned the Certified Lactation Counselor credential, successfully passing all the competencies and earning a high passing score on the exam.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. Today, the academy has more than 75,000 members and is committed to improving the nation’s health and advancing the profession of dietetics through research, education and advocacy.
