Baptist Union County honors longtime nurse

A reception room full of team members, physicians, family, and friends recently celebrated the career of Linda Meeks, RN, who spent most of her 47-year nursing career at Baptist Union County.

Linda began her nursing career in 1968 when the hospital was known as Union County General Hospital. Linda accepted a position outside the Baptist system briefly in the early 1990s but returned to Baptist in January 1993. During her years in nursing, Linda worked in a variety of care settings, but for the past several years, outpatient surgery was her home. In February 2012, Linda was named a DAISY Award recipient for extraordinary nurses after being nominated by her outpatient surgery colleagues.

During Linda’s retirement reception, Director of Surgery Amanda Ivy read several comments from her colleagues that reflected on their favorite memories and the values Linda taught them. Randy White, Baptist Union County’s chief nursing officer, gave an overview of the local and national trends and events that happened the year Linda started her nursing career. One common thread in everyone’s comments is that Linda has demonstrated tremendous compassion and dedication to the patients she has cared for during her career.
