Nearly everyone has experienced heartburn after a particularly spicy meal or during highly stressful times, but more than 25 million Americans experience it every day.
To help those sufferers, Baptist North Mississippi recently opened the Baptist Heartburn Treatment Center. The center offers advanced diagnostic testing and education to guide patients every step of the way.
Heartburn is the most common symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, a serious condition that causes chest pain, regurgitation, difficulty swallowing, chronic cough, hoarseness and sore throat. Symptoms can be mild to very severe but should never be ignored. Many patients suffer for years without the benefit of a full evaluation, and medications to control acid reflux may hide ‒ rather than treat ‒ the disease.
GERD has also been linked to the development of esophageal cancer. More than 20,000 Americans are diagnosed with reflux-induced cancer every year.
The center is offering free consultations; to schedule one, please call 662-513-1551.
