Baptist has $2.6 billion economic impact

Baptist Memorial Health Care recently conducted an economic impact study with The University of Memphis that found the organization had a $2.6 billion economic impact on the Mid-South.

In fiscal year 2012, Baptist had total operating revenues of more than $1.5 billion as a result of providing acute hospital care services to area citizens, resulting in:

  • A total production of goods and services (output) value of more than $2.6 billion
  • Total salaries, wages, and benefits of $1.1 billion
  • 21,263 full- and part-time jobs
  • $89 million in state and local taxes generated

According to the study, the impact of more than 100 years of service to the Mid-South places Baptist among the largest and most important organizations in the history of the Mid-South. The purpose of this report was to examine the economic impact of each of the 14 hospitals in the Baptist system to show the important role Baptist plays as a part of the economic base of the Mid-South communities it serves.
