Baptist OneCare looking forward to the new year

After celebrating the one-year anniversary of its first launch, the Baptist OneCare team is evaluating its past success and looking forward to a new year of progress.

Baptist Memorial Health Care’s new electronic health record, Baptist OneCare, was unveiled on Jan.1 and 2, 2014, making it the largest project in the system’s history. It gives patients access to their own medical records anywhere at any time, the ability to refill prescriptions and even make doctors’ appointments. It also enables providers to update their patients’ medical record, ensuring that medications are correct and available and diagnostic test results are handled accurately and privately.

“When we embarked on this journey, we wanted to keep our commitment to the patients but also find a way to serve the operational users and providers at Baptist,” said Beverly Jordan, Baptist’s vice president and chief clinical transformation officer.

This past year, more than 70,000 people signed up for BOC MyChart. BOC has even attracted international attention. Health care professionals from Denmark will visit Memphis on Feb. 10 to speak with members of the BOC team and operational owners about their success during the past year.

“Hosting health care leaders from another country allows us to re-examine our past year and what we did correctly and help them apply it to their own installation of a similar system,” said Jordan, “We can also go back and note any errors or improvements in our own system that need to be made and adjust accordingly for the new year.”

In addition, the BOC mission control call center will be gearing up for its next go-live on March 1. The center is staffed by experts in application areas including access and revenue, ancillary, ambulatory, inpatient, technical, users and security, and the reporting and intake center.
