Scarlett Ellerbrook, a receptionist at NEA Baptist Clinic, has drawn praise from her fellow team members for taking on a new role as the primary resource for patients who need help with the new Baptist OneCare MyChart kiosks. The purpose of the kiosks ‒ placed behind her desk in the Medical Office Building ‒ is to provide patients with a more convenient way to check in for their doctors’ appointments and pay their bills. Users can check in for themselves or on behalf of dependents in their care, such as elderly parents or young children.
Fellow team member Lexanne Horton, NEA Baptist Clinic’s chief operating officer, notes that while Scarlett has always helped patients as they enter the building, she has been particularly helpful for patients who need to use the kiosks.
“Scarlett talks to the patients as they enter and points out the kiosk to them as a way to check in conveniently,” said Lexanne. “I have seen her come from behind her desk and lead them around to the kiosk to show them and get them started. She is always cheerful and friendly with the patients. “
As the kiosk resource, Scarlett will answer questions, encourage use of the kiosks, keep paper in the printers, and protect patient privacy by shredding any paperwork patients inadvertently leave behind. Her expanded role is particularly important because the kiosks raise awareness for Baptist OneCare.
“The kiosks are prominently placed in the lobby with signage above them, so all employees and patients see the kiosks as they go about their day,” says Lexanne. “It has increased awareness of signing up for MyChart and making payments through the kiosk, in addition to checking in for the appointment.
“NEA Baptist Clinic is pleased to have someone at our reception desk who truly loves her job and loves to help patients every day! We know that all patients are greeted with respect, care and concern by Scarlett, and that is so valuable.”
