Mary Ruth Scruggs, a nurse in Baptist Rehab-Germantown’s skilled nursing facility, recently was named the Memphis District Caregiver of the Year. She is eligible to win the statewide Caregiver of the Year award, which will be given in November.
A Service First Champion and Team Mate of the Quarter, Mary Ruth was recognized for her care and concern for patients and family members. She made all the arrangements for an impromptu 90th birthday party for a resident who didn’t have close family in town. After learning that the wife of a resident lost power in her home last winter, Mary Ruth got permission for the wife to stay at the hospital with her husband. She frequently uses her own money to buy decorations for the SNF, and residents consistently mention her on their patient satisfaction surveys.
According to Mary Ruth’s nominator, Baptist Rehab-Germantown Assistant Administrator Rebecca DeRousse, “She is truly a special caregiver, loved and respected by her residents, families, co-workers and administration.”
