Kristi Davis, a Baptist Women’s Hospital registered nurse and Baptist OneCare super user, recently was named the hospital’s third quarter Service First Champion.
Several team members nominated Kristi for helping to make the hospital’s Baptist OneCare go-live successful. Nominators said she has been a literal 24/7 resource, answering every call and request, even after hours and on weekends. She answers every question cheerfully, with a smile on her face.
“She has answered phone calls and texts at all hours because she cares so much about the staff, their success with EPIC and the success with EPIC itself,” said one of her nominators. “I cannot say enough thank yous to Kristi for all that she has done.”
Another nominator describes her as “the glue that has held the hospital together” as they implemented Baptist OneCare, helping staff as they get used to working with the new electronic health record system.
In one instance, a patient was in labor all day and had to have a cesarean section that evening. The new parents wanted to keep their baby in the room with them, but the labor and delivery staff and physicians needed help with charting and didn’t think they could work through those issues and stay with the new family. As a result, they could not grant the request, which made the new mom and dad very upset. Kristi offered to take the baby to the room and be responsible for the baby’s care and charting. Staff was able to continue with what they were doing, and the parents could have that important bonding time with their new child.
“She saw a need, and even though it was not her responsibility and she had at least 10 different people pulling her in all different directions, she cared enough about these parents to make sure they got to keep their baby with them and bond because, as she told me afterward, ‘This is what it is all about—the patients, the mamas, the daddies and their babies.’”
