Baptist Union County recently conducted a “Mission with a Vision” donation drive to collect eyewear for area mission trips. The hospital’s pastoral care department, along with the employee Service First council, collected eyeglasses, reading glasses, and sunglasses for both adults and children during the month of May.
A total of 165 pairs of glasses, new and used, were collected for a mission trip to Babahoyo, Ecuador, scheduled for June 26 through July 4. The glasses were presented to Dr. Tim Thompson during a chapel service at Baptist Union County. Thompson will be traveling to Ecuador for the mission trip, which is sponsored by Global Outreach in Tupelo, Miss.
“Our community is truly blessed to have an organization like Baptist Union County that supports and assists with missions,” said Thompson, chief of hospital medicine. “Several of our physicians on staff participate in mission trips throughout the year.”
Chaplain Bobby Cossey, who coordinated the donation drive for the eyeglasses, shared that the mission trip has a special meaning to him because he will have family making the trip.
“We are grateful for the generosity of the Baptist Union County staff and their partnership that made it possible to collect 165 glasses for this mission project,” stated Chaplain Cossey.
