Baptist Union County colleague recognized for assisting hospital chaplain with burial arrangements

Crystal McBrayer, BSN,RN, Baptist Union County’s community/occupational health coordinator, recently was named the hospital’s Service First Champion. Bobby Cossey, the hospital’s chaplain, nominated her.

In his nomination, Chaplain Cossey described how he had difficulty finding a cemetery for an infant burial and had discussed the dilemma with Crystal while waiting for a meeting to start. Crystal quickly made a few phone calls, and within minutes, arrangements were finalized for the burial at her church’s cemetery. Several of Crystal’s family and church members attended the ceremony.

“When I arrived at the cemetery, the outpouring of love and support offered by Crystal and Friendship Baptist Church was overwhelming,” said Chaplain Cossey.  “I believe Crystal demonstrated the heart of a Service First Champion.”

Baptist Union County’s other Service First Champion nominees were Valerie Carter, Kathy Floyd, Amanda Kent, Pauline Miller, and Laurie Wheeler.
