Some people are afraid of snakes; some fear spiders while others are terrified of failure. A common phobia among many is the fear of heights, or acrophobia. Looking down from a skyscraper window can force a cold sweat and weakness in the legs. Even the simplest thing, like crossing a bridge, can be paralyzing. Fear prevents us from achieving the goals and aspirations we dream about.
Mountain climbers must overcome phobias and fears to remain focused on reaching the summit to be successful. However, on the way up, constant reminders attempt to deplete the climber’s confidence. Animal tracks warn of unseen dangers lurking in the foliage or behind the next rock. Higher altitudes limit the supply of oxygen. Falling pebbles mock as the trekker makes another step upward. Although mindful of the threats around him, the climber must remain faithful, believing that success is imminent.
As we climb the mountains of life, we face doubt. There are people around you who will test your faith. You may feel you are falling as circumstances push you back. Being aware of those threats, know that God will catch you, lifting you with renewed spirit. Matthew 17:20 (NIV) He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Now, go climb that mountain!
