The Rev. Shane Stanford, Christ United Methodist Church’s senior minister, recently became the seventh clergyman honored as a Baptist Spiritual Treasure during an event at Garrett Auditorium. He delivered an inspiring message and received a small token of appreciation from Baptist for his contributions to the Memphis area’s faith-based and general community.
The sixth senior minister of Christ United Methodist Church, Stanford has written 12 books and formerly hosted a national television and radio show that airs in 30 million homes nationwide. Today, he co-hosts We Believe in Memphis, an issues, interview-based local television program. He also has traveled extensively, sharing his personal testimony as an HIV and Hepatitis C positive hemophiliac.
Stanford holds graduate degrees in theology and ethics from Duke Divinity School, where he was awarded the prestigious Jameson Jones Award in Homiletics. Before that, he graduated cum laude from the University of Southern Mississippi’s Honors College, where he holds a degree in political science with a minor in history. Stanford also has advanced training in marriage and family studies from the University of Southern Mississippi.
